SPECIALIZED & NAMED SCHOLARSHIPS
Teaching/Education Scholarship(s)
The following scholarship(s) are designed to support those students interested in pursuing a teaching/learning related career for any age group.
Henschel Pellett Future Teacher Award - $500 (Endowed)
This scholarship was endowed to honor both Dr. Heidi A. Henschel Pellett and her father, Mr. Floyd R. Henschel and their long standing teaching and educational careers. Both were true servant leaders in terms of their families, professions, and communities. Heidi was a long-time public-school teacher, university professor and Dean of Education & Professional Studies at Central Washington University prior to her passing in 2022 from leukemia. Floyd was a beloved junior high school science teacher in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. Floyd taught for more than 30 years and led a best practice system-wide science fair that regularly produced state and regional award winners. He was a Navy veteran and Lions Club member among his many community contributions. Both he and Heidi believed strongly in supporting, mentoring, and encouraging new teachers. It is for these reasons and the love for these two by their families that this award was endowed in perpetuity to celebrate these individuals and the countless number students that benefitted from their instruction and in simply knowing them.
*Note that award applicants & recipient must be intending to enroll in a teacher career.
Performing Arts Scholarship(s)
The following scholarship(s) are provided to support the performing arts in its many forms including Music (vocal & instrumental), Dance, and Theatre & Drama.
Arts Value Award (AVA) - $500
This scholarship was endowed to honor a recent Glynn County public high school graduate and highly skilled performing artist. It was through conversation with her family and the examination of the lack of scholarship opportunities for performing artists/high school graduates in Glynn County that inspired the development of the foundation itself. While the family and graduate will remain anonymous, it is with genuine appreciation that the AVA award will be available to other families to support their post-secondary performing arts dreams.
*Note that award applicants & recipient must be intending to enroll in some form of a performing arts program.
Leadership Scholarship(s)
The following scholarship(s) are provided to support the educational pursuits and dreams of high school students that show exceptional leadership accomplishment now and promise in the future.
Lance Toland Award - $500
A number of scholarships were provided and demonstrate his enduring support for the power of education.
Cornell Harvey Award- $500 (Endowed)
This scholarship was endowed to honor former Mayor Harvey and his commitment to mentoring and supporting youth to attend post-secondary education institutions.
General Robert & Meredith Magnus Award- $1,500
This scholarship was funded by General Robert and Mrs. Meredith Edge Magnus. General Magnus served over 39 years, retiring as the 30th Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps. Meredith is a multi-generation Georgian whose father was a World War II Marine. Her ancestors have served in every American war since 1775."
"The award supports both the General and Meredith's commitment to local educational initiatives that promote post-secondary educational attainment.
*Note that this award is designated for a student with demonstrated financial need who is planning to pursue a career in the military.
Health & Medical Sciences Scholarship(s)
The following scholarship(s) are provided to support those high school students interested in pursuing health science/care related careers like medicine, physical therapy, medical laboratory, radiological technology, health education.
Dr. C. Thomas Hopkins, Jr. Health Sciences Award - $1,000
The scholarship was funded by his family to honor Dr. C. Thomas Hopkins, Jr., MD in recognition of his longtime medical career as an orthopedic surgeon and his service on the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia for more than 14 years. Dr. Hopkins has worked tirelessly in working to increase health care excellence and educational opportunities and accessibility for all Georgia residents. Dr. Hopkins served in the United States Air Force as a fighter squadron flight surgeon and is the past president of the Griffin Rotary Club, Georgia Orthopaedic Society, and medical staff of Spalding Regional Hospital. Dr. Hopkins serves on the board of United Bank Corporation and United Bank of Griffin and has previously served on the boards of Augusta University (MCG) Health System and MAG Mutual Insurance Company. Hopkins earned his bachelor’s degree from Valdosta State University, attended the University of Georgia, and completed his medical degree and residency at Emory University.
*Note that this award is designated to support a student pursuing a health sciences related program of study in either a technical/trades school or college and university.
Culinary Scholarship(s)

Culinary Excellence Award - $500
Award to enhance and support those interested in a culinary career to pursue greater educational opportunity.
Business Program Scholarship(s)
The following scholarship(s) are provided to support those high school students interested in pursuing a business related career:
Business Award - $500
Scholarship to support students entering a Business-related educational program.
Largent Construction Award - $500
Scholarship to support students entering a Construction-related educational program.
